Boxing, since its inception, has been one of the world’s most popular sporting events to bet on; boxing has always drawn in a huge crowd and boxing betting enjoys one of the world’s largest betting markets.
Boxing being boxing, there are a limited number of betting markets when it comes to boxing betting when you compare it with other games such as football, but, for us, that’s a good thing; boxing betting is much easier to get right than football betting and it is far easier to specialise and really learn your stuff.
There are five main types of boxing betting which you need to know about if you are considering wagering some of your hard-earned cash on it:
-
Bout betting where you wager on either of the boxers to win outright or bet on a draw too. In boxing, draws are rare, so you are better off sticking to the outright betting.
-
Round betting where you can pick who you think will win and which round they will win in. This is a great market with higher winnings, but it is much harder to get right.
-
Method of victory is a type of boxing betting bet where you can bet on how the outcome will be decided, such as a simple knockout or disqualification.
-
Over and under rounds where you can predict whether the fight will last longer or shorter than a number of rounds. For example, if you bet on the match being shorter than 8.5 rounds and it lasted for 9, you would lose.
-
Fight to go the distance where you simply bet on whether or not the match is going to last throughout all 12 rounds.
When you have got the basics of boxing betting down and have won your first few bets, there are lots of advanced betting options out there which you can explore. Generally, these advanced boxing betting options have higher returns and really enable the more knowledgeable punter to win huge amounts of money.
The most basic of the above bets are numbers 3 and 4, others such as bout betting and fight to go the distance really require you to know a lot about the contestants. As with any sport, when you are thinking of participating in boxing betting you really do need to be dedicated enough to do your research and spend some time learning the ins and outs of the game, contestants and boxing betting market.
As a newbie, we are not saying you should not get involved. In fact, we are saying the opposite; the only way to get better is to dive right in and get some experience with real live boxing betting. All we are saying is that you should spend some time hitting the books and learning about boxing betting as well as placing wagers; you can only learn so much by actually placing bets – the rest comes through research and dedication to learning more about this hugely popular sport.
